Nikon FG: The Compact Classic That Grows With You

The Nikon FG packed beginner-friendly and creative controls into one remarkably compact SLR, and we’ve lovingly restored this one so it can make your first roll easy and your hundredth still exciting.

The Nikon FG may be small, but it quietly made Nikon history back in 1982. Why? You might ask. Well, It was the first Nikon SLR with Programmed Auto exposure, meaning it could choose the aperture and shutter speed while you focus, frame and catch the moment. It’s classic Nikon confidence with a friendlier first-roll personality: light enough to bring everywhere, charming enough to become part of the outfit and clever enough to keep film photography from feeling like a final exam.

When curiosity kicks in, the FG is ready to grow with you. Aperture Priority lets you choose the depth of field while the camera handles shutter speed, and Manual mode hands you control of the entire exposure. You still focus the lens and advance the film yourself, so every photograph has that satisfying hands-on rhythm.

Why You’ll Love It

• A Brilliant First-Roll Setting: Program mode handles the exposure decisions, leaving you free to concentrate on focusing, framing and catching the moment.
• Room to Get Creative: Move into Aperture Priority or full Manual control whenever you’re ready to experiment.
• Made to Come Along: Its compact, lightweight body is much easier to carry all day than many traditional SLR cameras.
• Helpful Viewfinder Guidance: An LED shutter-speed display keeps important exposure information visible while the camera stays at your eye.
• Restored with Love at Cute Camera Co: Every Nikon FG is lovingly restored by the Cute Camera Co. team so it works just like it did back in the summer of 1982.
